I would have been about 14 or 15 and one day wandering through Balboa Park in San Diego around 1969 or so I stumbled across an outdoor folk festival with two whiney, screetchy, unintelligble hippies whacking away at an acoustic guitar and set of bongoes. Of course I had no idea of the songs, was not very impressed and couldn't understand what they were singing or saying. But I was somehow captivated, pehaps more by trying to figure out what they were saying between songs through their accents, than any fundamental attraction to the music. I asked other folks who they were and no one knew. One guy finally said "I think Tyrannosaurus Rex, after the new display in the natural history museum." I had seen "My People" in an import section at the record store and would look at the cover and wonder if the music could be better than what I heard. One day it went on sale, so I bought it. I actually hated it except for the John Peel story but I played it alot anyway, still captivated by something. Then when Unicorn showed in the cut-out bins, wooooah! I really liked that and there was such a cool dinosaur bones poster inside! Then Beard, Yikes! Serious creativity and a sound like no other. I was getting hooked... A Daye Laye and all the fairy imagry stuff was reeling me in. And that bonus single of Ride a White Swan!!!! I eventually calmed down, getting more into Crosby Stills Nash and Young, then one day on the school bus a good year or more later, Bang-a-Gong came on the radio. Loved it. Within a week, I bought the single. Wondered who T. Rex was. What a sound. The little stacatto fuzz guitar tweets! Bought Warrior and was completely absorbed. The sparsity of Mambo Sun, the gutsy groove of Lean Woman Blues, and one day reading the tiny credits on the back, I saw "Marc Bolan"... Wasn't that the guy from Tyrannosaurus????!!! So maybe "T" did not stand for "Thomas" like my best friend speculated.... Went back and rechecked those old Tyrannosaurus LPs and sure enough, same guy.

Other Hobbies: Beer.... Well OK, gardening, power-pop music (Big Star, Rasberries, Beatles, Chris von Sneidern, Badfinger, etc), downhill skiing, hiking/backpacking.

*Why? Because it was meant to be.
*When? I was in 7th grade-12 years old-it was 71/72 when I turned over Bang A Gong (which my Mother bought me by mistake) and heard Raw Ramp. My soul knew that this was more than just another song...this was something that was going to guide my life and send me off on a journey of meeting exciting people, travel, and Marc love and philosophy. So,you see, I WAS dancing when I was 12 and my soul knew that this was home.
